Mindfulness Is in The Eye of The Creative
Putting pen to paper (or glue to sentimental cuttings) is positively satisfying. However, as we navigate the swinging pendulum between technology and tradition, it is noticeable that the art of crafting has taken a back foot. Instead, we’ve accepted the habit of typing notes on our phones, screenshotting images, or saving bookmarks on our internet tabs. What we’ve lost amidst our technological advancement is the mindfulness associated with creativity. By this I mean, the physicality of crafting and its connection to self-care.
The concept of scrapbooking, something which we almost immediately associate with our childhood, is subjective to our own creative mind. It is, in fact, an undervalued act of personal care. Visual conversations transcend the digital landscape as the relaxing nature of being in the physical present unplugs us. Rules and expectations are absent as imagination and creativity reigns supreme. You may be forgiven for assuming that scrapbooking is of old times past, but it is however, the ultimate definition of self-care.
3 Tips for Scrapbooking Your Way to A Better Self
1. Let Your Imagination Run Wild
With no digital comparison traps to stop you in your tracks, scrapbooking allows you to connect with your physical world in a present and intentional way. Letting your imagination run wild can work wonders for a happy and composed mind.
2. Allow Your Inspiration to Guide You
There is no limit to what a scrapbook can hold. From newspaper cuttings and magazine articles through to personal photographs and appliqués, inspiration can strike in the most unexpected places. Take a step back and run with it!
3. Don’t Pressure Yourself
Scrapbooks have no use-by date; allow yourself the same ease of time that you give to those around you.
Self-care is about acknowledging boundaries and being mindful. Taking care of your mind is the most productive thing you can do for yourself and those around you. Creative freedom is the epicentre of all self-care journeys and scrapbooking, albeit passé, may just be the way forward.
